For our second collaboration with women's sneaker retailer NAKED Copenhagen, we sought to create a shoe that's sustainable and vegan-friendly while still staying true to the vintage-aesthetic of the classic GEL-1130™ shoe. The intent behind this collaboration is to show that sneakers can look and feel just how we want them to while making them more thoughtful and sustainable and challenge the misconception that sustainable products are somehow inferior to products made with animal-based materials. The NAKED Copenhagen x ASICS GEL-1130™ sneaker is a stylish retro-inspired shoe that will elevate any outfit, without compromising on sustainability.
The inspiration behind this collaboration comes from ASICS' message of living uplifted as movement and staying active have positive impacts on both physical and mental well-being. With this in mind, we explored how to create sneakers to help people 'live uplifted' whilst also being sustainable and vegan-friendly. The result is a vintage-inspired sneaker made with recycled materials in a versatile colour palette that can support you through your day, while caring for the world around you.
Inspired by an archival GEL-1130™ silhouette, the sneaker draws on retro aesthetics and features a sage green and brushed silver upper and an off-white midsole with GEL™ technology. The shoe's midsole is secured by a TRUSSTIC™ torsion arch in sage green that connects the forefront and heel, while a black-grey rubber outsole rounds out the look. All the materials from the upper and tongue mesh to the synthetic overlays and shoelaces are made from recycled materials. In honour of ASICS' heritage and legacy and in a nod to our collaboration with NAKED Copenhagen, the recycled material shoebox is co-branded using water-based detailing with each of our hometowns of Kobe and Copenhagen respectively.
